hi! happy christmas time!
i made some egg nog the other night for my friends and myself
you know, i always thought i hated egg nog
every time i've tried it in the past, it has tasted like bubble gum to me- sick
so last year i decided that to make a true assessment, i needed to make it for myself
so i did
and as many of us know, first impressions aren't everything
and i like egg nog after all
this year i made a few tweeks & love it even more
this version of egg nog tastes like nutmeg, vanilla bean, day dreams, cinnamon, & creaminess
and absolutely nothing like bubble gum
i feel like egg nog might be a new tradition for me
what IS IT about tradition?
i find myself always looking for new holiday traditions to keep
it's kind of weird because i'm a pretty spontaneous person
i'm usually intrigued by the fun, new, & different
but around the holidays, i crave tradition
there's something special about it
something sacred, sure, and untouchable
i love that more than anything
whisk egg yolks together, set aside
in medium saucepan, heat milk, cream, vanilla bean & seeds, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks until reaching 160F
slowly whisk milk mixture into eggs- very slowly & carefully to prevent eggs from cooking
next add mixture back into saucepan and heat until 160F
refrigerate until chilled ~4 + hours
add bourbon once mixture has cooled down- after 2 hrs or so
egg yolks, 6
sugar, 2/3 c.
whole milk, 2 c.
cream, 2 c.
vanilla bean, scraped
whole nutmeg, grated, 2 tsp ish
cinnamon sticks, 6 + garnishes
bourbon, 3/4 c.
*** i cooked to 160F because raw eggs freak me out a bit // many people whip the egg whites & add them in before serving for a more frothy texture- your choice
